CHIPPENDALE STYLE BIRCH TALL CASE CLOCK. 19th century, New England. The bonnet with swan’s neck pediment centering an urn form finial. The arched door flanked by colonettes opening to an enameled sheet iron face, the dial with Roman numeral chapter ring centering a subsidiary seconds dial above time and strike apertures centering an arched calendar aperture, all within paint-decorated floral spandrels, a landscape painted within the arch. The eight day weight driven brass English movement striking on a bell. The molded case with panel door joined to the cove-molded box base raised on ogee bracket feet. Clock is offered with finial, pendulum, weights and winder. SIZE: 8′ h x 14-1/2″ w of throat x 11-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Case with early if not original surface, now with craquelure. Dial with old painted surfaces and craquelure. Movement refurbished. Generally good. 9-29375 (1,500-2,000)
