RARE HALBACH & SONS FLINTLOCK PISTOL. SN NSN. Cal. About 65. Small contract pistol with 7-1/2″ unmarked rnd iron bbl with elliptical brass front sight. Lockplate is unmarked, about 4″ long, slightly curved with a pointed teat on the stepped tail and a delicate gooseneck hammer. It has a bridled frizzen with curved toe and swell end spring extension. Mounted in a pin fastened 1-pc walnut stock with brass furniture, two decorative guides and a plain replacement trigger guard. Stock has raised teardrop side panels and a horn forend tip. Sideplate is long & decorative with engraved borders. Butt cap is cast in the shape of an elaborate spread winged American eagle with a shield on its breast. Top tang is in a raised carved panel with raised cornucopia at the rear and small stars stamped around the perimeter. An unknown very few of these pistols were produced from about 1785 into the early 1800s in a variety of different sizes, styles & patterns. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl is a cleaned silver/gray patina with scattered pin prick pitting. Lockplate, hammer & frizzen are a dark gray patina with fine surface pitting. Stock is sound with usual light nicks & scratches and retains a hand worn patina. Ramrod & trigger guard are replacements. Brass is clean with a dark brass patina showing light to moderate wear on the butt cap. Mechanics are fine, moderately pitted bore. 4-40905 JR321 (4,500-5,500)
