WONDERFUL EARLY BRITISH FLINTLOCK MILITARY HOLSTER PISTOL. SN NONE. Cal. 60. Great early pistol with 12″ tapered round bbl, no provision for sights with the top marked with two large British proofs at the breech end and two other proofs on the top tang. Lockplate is about 5-3/8″ long, slightly curved with a short teat on the tail. It has a bridled frizzen with slightly curved frizzen toe and a large fleur-de-lis on frizzen spring tail. Lockplate is marked with a cipher of George III which is a crown over “GR” forward of the hammer. It also has a crown with broad arrow just above the frizzen spring tail. Tail of the lockplate is marked “JORDAN / 1747” vertically behind the hammer. Tail of the lockplate is outlined with fine shield shaped border with matching line borders on top & bottom edges forward of hammer. It has a gooseneck hammer with convex shank and light incised border engraving with top jaw also border engraved which matches the front of the frizzen. Mounted in a 1-pc European walnut stock with brass furniture and raised teardrop carved side panels and raised panel around top tang. Forestock has a swelled area by the nosepipe and is pin mounted. Right side of grip has a nearly legible British proof. Brass furniture consists of one guide & nosepipe containing a brass tipped hickory ramrod, a heavy trigger guard with a petal shaped finial with ball knob and a long lower tang. Butt cap is oval with stepped center and long languets and a large, empty acorn thumbplate. Trigger is wide with a curled tip. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Steel is bright and professionally cleaned. Stock has a hairline on the left forward side of bbl channel and another on the right side with a repaired crack also by the right bbl channel and is missing a small chip by the butt cap, otherwise wood is sound with light nicks & dings and retains most of an added finish.
