MAHAL PALACE CARPET. First quarter 20th century. The tomato red field profusely woven with scrolling floral vinery, centering a stepped ivory diamond medallion within deep indigo spandrels, all within a blue-black main border of stylized polychrome flowerheads and leaftip latticework. SIZE: 20’3″ x 11’9″. PROVENANCE: From a fine Beacon Hill and Thomaston estate. CONDITION: One third of rug with scattered areas of substantive wear. The majority of rug with very good pile. Fringes absent, with some loss to end guard border. Very nice large example. In need of a thorough cleaning. 9-93566 (3,000-6,000)
