GEORGE III SILVER TRAY AND A SILVER GALLERY TRAY. Late 18th-early 19th century. The oval silver serving tray with scalloped sides and gadrooned edges, stamped with the maker’s mark for Benjamin Laver (1781-86), the bottom additionally inscribed “108=9″. 104 Troy ounces. The gallery tray having rolled spiral edges with reticulated columnar design above a reeded border joined to the oval mahogany tray, centering a silver shield decorated with a deer’s head. Gallery tray with indistinct hallmarks including a five-pointed star and a pineapple. SIZE: The first: 22″ x 15-3/4″. The second: 24-1/2″ x 16-1/2”. PROVENANCE: From a fine coastal Maine private collection. CONDITION: The first with extensive knife blade scratches and wear to underside, markings crisp and clear. The gallery tray structurally very good, with various nicks and dents; one old repair in area of major hallmarks and an old repair to handle, all professionally done; wood surface in need of repolishing. 9-93924 (1,800-2,500)
