EMPIRE WALNUT SECRETAIRE ABATTANT. Second quarter 19th century, possibly Russia or Central Europe. The rectangular case with cove-molded cornice above a frieze drawer above the hinged lid opening to an interior fitted with an arrangement of drawers with burled drawer fronts. Each drawer with diamond form inlay. The uppermost drawer with parquetry fan, the central interior portion simulating a grand entry hall with steps flanked by ebonized colonnettes with brass capitals and bases. The parquetry (entry) floor continuing to a foliate pen and ink decorated section backed by a mirror plate. The case additionally fitted with three long drawers, each with central ring brass handle, flanked by ebonized column pilasters with cast brass capitals and bases on a conforming plinth. SIZE: 59″ h x 39-1/2″ w x 19-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Collection and shop contents of Linda and the late Vito Peri (owners of the Blue Dolphin Antique Shop, Northport, Maine).
