ENGLISH FLINTLOCK LONG FOWLER. SN NSN. Cal. .705 Bore diameter. 54″ Round barrel with London proofs and gunmakers mark “RW” (Richard Wilson?) has dovetailed-in brass front sight. Brown Bess lock with rounded serpentine cock, bridled frizzen, and acanthus filed spring tip, is engraved “Tower” with crown and “GR” under pan. It is also broad arrow stamped. Decorative pierced sideplate holds two screws. Multi-beaded, heavy brass chamfered and decoratively filed trigger guard has pointed finials. Swan-necked fruit wood, possibly apple, stock has brass buttplate with long shaped top tang, and extends to muzzle. Stock mounts to bbl with four pins. Hickory ramrod is held by four ring-turned brass pipes. There is a small pierced crest at grip which also shows repair being wrapped with a sheet of brass and fastened by copper pins. CONDITION: Good. Iron has a dark patina. Brass has dark brown patina. Stock has old rubbed oil finish. 4-40210 MGM159 (3,000-4,000)
