FLINTLOCK CLUB-BUTT FOWLER. SN NSN. Cal. .620 Bore diameter. 54″ Tapered octagon barrel flared at muzzle is marked with London proofs and gunmakers mark “I W” surmounted by a crown? (most probably the mark of John Walker the first, ca. 1730). Early flat lock with file decoration has broad flat cock, faceted pan, unbridled frizzen, and friction spring with feather filed termination. Double beaded brass trigger guard has file decorated finials. Beechwood stock has drooping swan neck to uncovered club butt. Stock extends to within 1-1/2″ of muzzle with small brass cap, and is presently wired to bbl in three places. Ramrod is held by five ring-turned pipes and tailpipe with spear finial. CONDITION: Fair. Bbl is mostly dark brown patina with covering of shellac. Same could be said for lock. Cock has heavy pitting. Furniture and stock have old application of oil, after cleaning. Ramrod is broken. There are many slivers of wood missing along bbl channel, with one or two repairs. Another piece of wood is missing behind left breech. Central lock screw is missing. 4-40195 MGM158 (3,000-5,000)
