HARPERS FERRY TYPE IV 1815 MARKED MUSKET. SN NSN. Cal. .62. Typical 1795 configuration 42″ bbl is held by three spring-retained bands, front band with brass bead sight, and middle band with welded sling loop. Bbl has bayonet lug 1-1/8″ back from muzzle. Breech is stamped with “P” and eagle, as well as, “US” in oval cartouches. Right side of bbl is also stamped “E 1”. Lockplate has small eagle in front of hammer and “Harpers Ferry 1815” at rear, and is fitted with integral rounded pan, short square-toed frizzen, spring with teardrop finial, and uniquely styled Harpers Ferry cock. Trigger guard has bulbous rounded finials. Walnut stock has low unfluted comb. Initials “J*H*S” are carved in left side of stock. “B” is on right. CONDITION: Very good. Metal cleaned to silver gray patina over numerous marks and pitting. Wood has been cleaned, with edges rounded, with wood repairs around top rear of lockplate, and crack at front. Orig ramrod is fine. Bbl has had touch-hole relined, during period of use. 4-40850 MGM188 (2,000-3,000)
