ELIZABETH LISTER ALPHABET SAMPLER 1812. Possibly Virginia. The square sampler stitched in tones of green on linen having rows of the alphabet, each row exhibiting different types of stitch all between zigzag and wave borders. The central section with verse: “Jesus permit thy gracious name…And write thy name thyself upon her heart.” beneath which is stitched “Work’d by Elizabeth Lister in the 8th year of her age.” above a line with the initials “WL” on the left and “EL” on the right. The final line dated “18—12″. SIZE: Sight 11-1/2″ x 11-3/4”. CONDITION: Very fine overall with a small dime sized stain within the word “love”, proper left side center. 9-20121 (700-900)
