C. P. MARKED 1795 TYPE FLINTLOCK MUSKET. SN NSN. Cal. .69. 44″ Bbl is held by three spring-retained bands. There is a brazed-on bayonet lug between 1 and 1-1/4″ from muzzle. Front band incorporates brass front sight. Middle band has welded sling loop. Left rear of bbl is stamped with “P” and eagle in deep circular cartouche, and “C” is at front of breech plug. 6-1/2″ Flat lockplate with teat is fitted with removable faceted pan. Flat-faced chamfered cock is curled at top spur. Top jaw screw has long teardrop shaped finial. Frizzen has squared toe. Frizzen spring finial has teat. Tail of lock is stamped “C P” with no other markings discernible. Interior lockplate is stamped “P B” over “K”. Trigger guard has long pointed finials. Buttplate is unmarked. Walnut stock is unfluted and unmarked, except for what appears to be a Roman numeral I, or possibly two notches, carved on comb. CONDITION: Good. Metal cleaned to silver and gray over scattered light pitting, with some heavy pitting evident on lockplate. Wood is fine, and has not been refinished. Frizzen, mainspring, and possibly frizzen spring, appear to be replacements using old parts. Tulip-top steel ramrod is a good quality reproduction. 4-40851 MGM187 (2,000-3,000)
