EDMA MORISOT-PONTILLON (French, 1839-1921) WASH DAY ON THE RIVER. Oil on canvas French country scene shows a winding river with sailboat, two women washing clothes and a fisherman. Grass and tree covered banks lead to a hill with a village. Signed bottom left “E Morisot”. Edma Morisot was older sister of Bertha Morisot, one of the most revered painters in the Corot style. The influence of Corot on this piece is strong and this exemplifies Edma’s best abilities at landscape painting. Housed in a fine Napoleon style gilt replacement frame. SIZE: 19-1/4″ x 25-1/2″.
