EXCEPTIONALLY RARE MAHOGANY MAGAZINE FOR 4 BORE STRONG CANNON. SN NSN. Cal. 4 Bore. Rounded lid has cast patterned brass folding handle with two brass hook and eye closures, as well as key lock. Interior of lid has Strong Firearms Company label showing cannon in four wheeled naval carriage. Interior has spaces for 26 cartridges, for up to 1.2″ in diameter. It contains 25 loaded and fired 4-bore brass and paper cartridges. Seven fired, and two loaded are by Winchester with red cardboard tubes, and one loaded, and 15 fired UMC shells are by Remington with yellow cardboard tubes. Also included is red tin ovoid can of Dupont double F powder, brass re-capper, 4-bore wad rammer, and old UMC no. 2 copper primers. CONDITION: Fine. Exterior retains most of its original finish. Top of lid has lifted at corners. Finish has many marks and minor scrapes. Label is very good, showing some insect damage, and foxing. Shells are good, as are rammer and base. Powder can label is very good with some foxing, and one or two rubs through. This seldom seen accessory was pictured in early Strong catalogs. 4-40967 MGM177 (5,000-7,000)
