UNUSUAL 18TH CENTURY FRENCH SAMPLER. Nice linen example of rows of verse interspersed with lines of floral decoration centering the Apostle’s Creed and so labeled on a stitched paper plaque “Le Credo des Apotres/date 1737” in bottom right. A broad band of polychrome geometric design beneath “MARY BOUVEAR JUN__ 1737″, all above a floral bouquet in petit point, a song bird mounted on a leaf. Mounted beneath an eglomise panel within a burl maple frame. SIZE: 16″ x 8-1/2” sight. PROVENANCE: From a fine Augusta, Maine estate. CONDITION: With overall even toning. Structurally intact with even fading. 9-29339 (1,800-2,200)
