MARQUETRY CHERRY SLANT-LID SECRETARY BOOKCASE. Second half, 18th century, possibly France. The case in two parts, the bookcase with stepped shaped frieze centering a marquetry demilune crest depicting opposing aquatic dragons above three blind cupboard doors. The lower case with hinged sloping lid inlaid with a delicate floral bouquet within a string inlaid boarder opening to an interior of drawers centering a marquetry prospect drawer depicting a seated maiden with cherub over four long graduated drawers on a molded base raised on shaped bracket feet. SIZE: 76″ h x 47″ w x 22″ d. CONDITION: Professionally repolished with honey brown patina. Some lifting to string inlays, with minor losses. Otherwise good. 9-29044 (1,500-3,000)
