FINE PAINT DECORATED AND LACQUERED FOUR PANEL SCREEN. 19th century, in the Moorish palette. One side profusely decorated with polychrome painted and gilt decorated scrolling vinery, all within fields of flowerheads on a black ground. The reverse painted with vibrant polychrome flowering shrubs on a black ground with intricate gold accents, all within dense floral borders. The frame set with chamfered panels. The frame continuing to rectangular supports with shaped returns. Each panel with Moorish cresting and lollipop terminals. SIZE: 80″ h x 84″ l overall. PROVENANCE: The personal property of award winning American actress, singer, and best-selling author, Polly Bergen. CONDITION: All surfaces structurally intact, but with heavy “alligatoring” of shellac and with overall craquelure. Due to this fact, it is difficult to determine absolutely if painted and gilt surfaces are in fact on lacquer or thin paper with lacquer-painted surfaces.
