IMPORTANT PAIR OF ITALIAN RENAISSANCE REVIVAL BRASS ANDIRONS. Third quarter 19th century. Each cast with a bearded male figure supporting a classical urn with rams head handles, emitting flames above his head. The figure wrapped in a lion skin garment. Standing on a square pedestal, the front mounted with an armorial crest. The base cast in the form of opposing dragons centering a classical mask raised on three claw feet. SIZE: Height: 42″. Width overall: 21″. Depth overall: 30-1/2″. PROVENANCE: From the Payne Whitney residence 972 Fifth Avenue NYC. Designed and decorated by Stanford White.
