LOUIS XV STYLE MARQUETRY ROSEWOOD AND KINGWOOD CARD TABLE. Late 19th century, France. This fine example with rectangular hinged top with serpentine edges and ovolo corners. The crossbanded borders centering a marquetry panel with large floral cartouche within scrolling foliate and floral vinery on ebony ground. The top opening to a baise-lined playing surface within crossbanded borders above a conforming serpentine frieze inlaid overall with marquetry cartouches and panels raised on tapering angular cabriole legs with ebony accents terminating in gilt metal sabots. Each frontal leg headed by cast gilt metal mounts of classical female busts. The apron and top all with cast gilt metal foliate trim. SIZE: 31-1/2″ h x 35″ w x 19-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From a fine Augusta, Maine estate. CONDITION: Generally very good with minimal veneer losses to base of proper right front front leg and edge of same. Surfaces and marquetry all original and intact, with some dryness and light cracking overall. 9-29181 (2,000-4,000)
