JEAN LOUIS ERNEST MEISSONIER (French, 1815-1891) THE CARD PLAYER. Fine oil on wood panel interior scene shows a man holding playing cards seated at a table with a double handled jug of wine and a jug beside him on the ground. He wears a fancy costume in red and green with sword at side. Long curly brown hair, mustache and hat with feather. Housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt frame with artist plaque. Signed with artist monogram lower right. SIZE: 7″ x 5-1/4″. CONDITION: Very good. 9-96377 (4,000-6,000)
