ALLEGORICAL CARVED COCONUT SHELL BANK ON LATER STAND. 2nd half 19th century, possibly Mexican or Central American. This finely carved still bank with a panorama of colonial soldiers in armor, other figures with bow, arrows and machetes, horse and dogs, all carved within dense foliate landscape, one end carved with foliate pinwheel design, the opposing end carved as a fanciful fish with open mouth, mustache and goatee. Displayed on a carved painted ceramic stand with three vertical fronds on a plinth base. SIZE: 7″ overall h. w/stand. CONDITION: Facial carving with roughness to eyes, nose and mouth.
