CHARLES EPHRAIM BURCHFIELD (American, 1893-1967)”OUTSIDE THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY”. Pencil drawing of a street scene with figures, street light, and trees. Burchfield was awarded a scholarship to go to the National Academy in New York in 1916. Though it wasn’t to his liking (he lasted one day) he stayed in New York for two months. A sketchbook marked “New York” was found after Burchfield’s death and this was one of the first to be sold from that sketchbook from Kennedy Galleries, representing Burchfield’s Estate. The drawing, with a free floating mount in a modern gilt frame with double matte. The drawing, in the upper right corner is stamped “C E Burchfield Foundation B-254. SIZE: 9-1/4″ x 6”.
