CONFEDERATE BLOCKADE RUN ENFIELD CARTRIDGE BOX. This is the standard Enfield rifled musket cartridge box which measures about 8-1/2″ across. This box is maker marked on the inside flap behind tab “S. ISSAC CAMPBELL & CO./71 JERMYN ST/LONDON” in a 1-1/2″ in a Tombstone-shaped cartouche. Most of these Blockade run boxes found were surplus, captured and sold in prize court. This box shows use as can be seen in photos. Box is still complete with most of its original finish though scuffed and worn on cover and over the should strap loops are distorted from having a strap attached carrying rounds. The closure tab on these boxes is normally buff, this tab has been replaced with bridle leather. Otherwise, box is original and complete including original one-piece tin. Confederate cartridge boxes are scarce Civil War accouterments and this is an interesting and attractive box. CONDITION: Box overall is very good with possible areas of re-sewing including the replaced closure tab. Box retains much of its original black finish, though scuffed and worn overall. 4-40829 JS29 (3,000-4,000)
