CONFEDERATE BLOCKADE RUN ENFIELD RIFLED MUSKET. This 58 cal. 1862 dated Enfield musket is marked on top of the stock in front of buttplate tang “Crown/SH/G3”. This is a known Confederate acceptance mark that will be shown in upcoming book on British Confederate imports. This gun must have been sold in prize court as captured because of its “like new” condition. This gun is full of other proofs including an oval cartouche with “IC” opposite lock and a “WL”. There is an “RB” stamped in barrel behind the standard Birmingham gauge marks of “24-24” (24 gauge is 58 caliber where normal British gauge 25 is 577 caliber). Stock still exhibits raised grain, the lock shows traces of muted case colors. The bbl has much of its original blue though thinning in most areas. The bore appears new and unshot. Gun is 100% complete including original sling swivels and ram rod that is marked “T&C.G”. CONDITION: Metal surfaces all smooth. Bbl has thin finish in most of its surface with scattered small scrapes and scratches. Lock is smooth with several scratches and pitted area behind hammer. Stock shows numerous storage dings and dents. There is a small hole in top of the stock cone where a museum or collector tag was once attached. Markings are all crisp and easily discernible in metal and in wood as can be seen in photos. 4-40828 JS28 (3,000-4,000)
