PALMETTO ARMORY PISTOL. This is a nice well marked example of a popular secondary Confederate pistol. Nice, dark, uncleaned condition. Lock is marked forward of hammer “PALMETTO ARMORY SC” in a circle around a Palmetto tree. Rear of lock is stamped “COLUMBIA/SC 1852”. Barrel is proofed “P/V/palmetto tree”. Below proofs barrel is marked “Wm GLAZE & CO”. The bbl tang is dated “1853”. CONDITION: Barrel and lock are brown overall with scattered areas of pitting. Markings on lock and bbl are easily discernible, esp lock as can be seen in photos. The tang date of 1853 is hard to read from pitting, however the 185 are visible with a loupe, but the three is not discernible. The brass mountings have a pleasant yellow/mustard patina with numerous small nicks and scratches, esp in the butt where gun apparently was used as a hammer. Stock is solid with one hairline crack opposite lock. Some burning and chipping around lock and reduction of about 1/2″ around bolster. 4-40770 JS35 (4,000-6,000)
