FRUITWOOD DIPTYCH COMPASS AND SUNDIAL. Circa 1778. The rectangular wood case with brass hook latches opening to reveal a chapter ring on lid and base each with Roman numerals centering a dry compass with blued steel needle also fitted within the lid is a lead pendant weight attached to a string. Carved within the side of the case is the date 1778. SIZE: 3-4″ h x 3-3/8″ l x 2-1/4″ w. CONDITION: Structurally very good, retaining original surfaces and very dark patina the glass cover to the compass with crack. 9-99900 (700-900)
