PORTRAIT PLATE ACCOMPANIED BY TIFFANY MEDALS. 1881, New York. This unique item comprised of a portrait plate depicting an English setter in a landscape signed by “E Frerot” mounted within a conforming frame cast overall with oak leaf and acorn vinery. Accompanied by two Tiffany & Co silver medals, one dated “1881”, each engraved “WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB BENCH SHOW” centering the engraved bust of a setter, the reverse engraved “AWARDED TO” within a laurel ribbon tied wreath. On each medal name of winner or recipient is left blank. Both mounted within original Tiffany & Co presentation box. SIZE: Plate: 11-1/2″ dia sight. Overall: 17″ dia. Medal: 2″ dia. PROVENANCE: According to family lore the setter, painted by E. Frerot, was the recipient of the accompanying medals. There is no explanation as to why the name of the dog was not engraved on the two medals. CONDITION: Plate very good. Frame has been repainted and with small losses and some shrinkage cracks.
