D. LUVATE MAHOGANY WHEEL BAROMETER. Circa 1830. Signed D. Luvate, Preston. The swan’s neck cresting centering a pediment above a dry/damp indicator, the throat with thermometer with silvered dial above a convex mirrorplate within a reeded ebony slip, the base with silvered dial barometer with convex glass and brass bezel above the adjuster post, the base fitted with a leveler marked “A. LUVATE / PRESTON”. The maker is probably Dominic Luvate (also spelled Luvatte), who is recorded working at 43 Friargate and 23 Friargate in Preston in 1828 and 1834 respectively. SIZE: 38″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine home in Bucksport, Maine. CONDITION: Glass tube intact, leveler adjustment knob missing. Otherwise appears very good overall. 9-93149 (400-600)
