FINE CHIPPENDALE CARVED MAHOGANY AND GILTWOOD LOOKING GLASS, PROBABLY ENGLISH. Circa 1770. The rectangular mirrorplate within a leafy gilt slip and molded surround, the swan’s neck pediment centering a carved and gilt-decorated displayed eagle above the frieze with incised, carved, and gilt leafy vinery, flanked by scrolled ears. The pendant apron scrolled. SIZE: 49″ x 22″. PROVENANCE: From a fine Beacon Hill and Thomaston estate. CONDITION: Structurally original with old plate and backboards. Minimal restoration. One small old repair in molding and on one pediment. Some re-gilding. 9-93577 (800-1,200)
