J. J. OLAWSON (First half of the 20th Century) PAIR OF SHIP PORTRAITS. Watercolor portraits shows: 1) The “South Portland” and inscribed “New York N.Y. 400. Reg. Tons”. Ship is seen sailing left to right flying U.S. flag under white cloud and blue sky. Black and red hulled ship sails left to right with sails on two masts and smoke coming from center deck. Unsigned. Housed in a black modern frame with ivory matte. 2) Watercolor shows and inscribed “U.S. Str. Quaker City, 1600 Tons, 7 Guns”. Signed “J. J. O” and also signed in border “J. J. Olawson”. Scene shows a two-stack, two-mast side wheel steamer at anchor with land and buildings beyond. Housed in a black modern frame with ivory matte. SIZE: Sight: 1) 7″ x 10″. 2) 6-1/2″ x 9-1/2″.
