CONFEDERATE RIGDON AND ANSLEY REVOLVER.

CONFEDERATE RIGDON AND ANSLEY REVOLVER. Cal 36, SN2038. This is a nice example of a well marked Augusta Georgia made pistol. This gun has a pleasant plum-brown color throughout. All parts normally numbered with serial number 2038 are numbered including bbl, latch, loading arm, cyl, arbor, frame, trigger guard and backstrap. The wedge is not numbered, however appears correct in style and patina for this gun. A cryptic “W” appears on the left side of trigger guard. The bottom of left stock exhibits inspectors cartouche “WH” in script which stands for Wescom Hudgens. Gun appears original and authentic in all regards. The “CSA” stamp on top bbl flat is easily read. CONDITION: Metal surfaces to frame and bbl are smooth and brown with areas of nicks and gouges, esp on either side of wedge aperture. There is a small gap probably caused by a prying tool stuck between bbl housing and frame as seen in pictures. The cyl exhibits ground areas on both perimeters almost 1/2″ wide at back completely circling the cyl. The rest of cyl surface is smooth and brown like the rest of the gun. The stocks fit gun well with few gaps from shrinkage. There are five notches carved into right stock and a few other carved decorations, possibly an initial. Stocks retain traces of original varnish. there is one small chip on front toe on left. There are numerous dings and dents in bottom of backstrap and butt stocks due to guns use as a tack hammer. The gun mechanically works well and the bore is very good though rusted. All markings including serial numbers and “CSA” on top of bbl flat are well struck and easily read. 4-40762 JS46 (18,000-20,000)
