CONFEDERATE DANCE DRAGOON REVOLVER. SN 17. This is a nice example of a Confederate Dance revolver that was originally offered in catalog sale by Eric Vaule about 1970. The gun was purchased by well known Confederate collector Ted Meredith and was sold in his estate in 2002. This is the first time that the gun has been offered for sale since then. This gun is pictured on pages 38 & 39 of Gary Wiggins 1986 book, “Dance & Brothers: Texas Gunmakers of the Confederacy”. This gun appears in the configuration it was used since the war including a con temporarily replaced loading assembly arm, apparently form a Colt dragoon serial number 5044. Based on patination and wear, this loading arm appears original to time of use of this gun as can be seen in photographs. All major parts of this gun are serial numbered 17 including bbl, frame, stocks, trigger guard, cylinder, and backstrap. This gun’s 8″ bbl is fitted with a 3/8″ long German silver blade sight. This is an honest, well used, early made Dance revolver owned by a couple well known early dealers and collectors. CONDITION: Metal surfaces are gray/brown overall. Bbl has areas of staining and pitting and muzzle wear is quite evident on the right upper side. Frame and cylinder are fairly smooth with a few areas still white with scattered pitting. Brass backstrap and trigger guard have good yellow patina. Stocks are fairly well fit with scattered dings, scrapes and scratches and both toes are chipped on the front side at trigger guard. 4-40690 JS39 (45,000-50,000)
