BRITISH NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER BY ANN MARIA LOVELL. Undated, 19th century. The pictorial sampler with zig zag floral border centering a needlework depicting a soldier with dog among shrubbery, flanked by floral-filled urns, butterflies, and floral sprigs, beneath two royal crowns, the bottom with a line “Ann Maria Lovell’s Work Done In Her Eight Year” within a red zig zag border beneath a recumbent deer. SIZE: 26-1/2″ x 21-3/4″. PROVENANCE: Written on the reverse in pencil script: “Lovell were related to Chowenhill first N.Y. then Denver, Colo, & back to Pleasantville Chappaqua Av. Could be a hundred years old”. CONDITION: In fairly good condition, with weaknesses to fabric around edges. Overall the linen canvas a coffee color. Color of stitchery still bright.
