NEW YORK CHIPPENDALE CARVED MAHOGANY ARMCHAIR. Circa 1780. The molded serpentine crest rail and outscrolled ears all carved with leaftips, joined to the pierced splat adorned with tassle- and S-scrolled acanthus leaves, joined to the trapezoidal molded slip seat frame, the serpentine arms with scrolling knuckle hand grips on incurved supports, the apron with gadrooned edge, raised on cabriole legs with acanthus-carved knees and boldly carved ball and claw feet. SIZE: 39″ h. of back. 30″ w. of arms. CONDITION: Structurally very good. Presently with a jade green washed finish. Very nice carving. 9-93730 (6,000-8,000)
