JAMES WELLS CHAMPNEY (American 1843-1903) “NEVER TOO LATE TO MEND”. Oil on mahogany panel interior scene shows man with needle and thread stitching a dress seated in a folding stool. He sits next to a wood stove with a jar atop. Signed lower right “J. Wells Champney”. Housed in a antique gold gesso decorated frame. Back of panel has original label with title, artist and location “96 5th Avenue, New York”. Pencil inscription indicated catalog #36. SIZE: 13” x 9-1/2”.
