SAVAGE NAVY MODEL PERCUSSION REVOLVER. SN 438. Cal. 36. Usual configuration with 7-1/8″ oct bbl, brass pin front sight and Savage address & patent markings on top strap. It has heart shaped trigger guard with ring trigger which rotates the cyl and cocks the hammer and a conventional trigger which fires the revolver. Mounted with 2-pc walnut grips. These revolvers were produced from about 1861 to the mid-1860s with about 20,000 made in that time frame. Most of them were produced on Gov’t contracts. CONDITION: Good. No orig finish remains with metal being an overall very dark brown attic patina with a few scattered spots of pitting. Grips have slightly chipped toes with handling & use marks showing moderate to heavy wear and retain traces of orig varnish under a hand worn patina. Mechanics are a little balky in cocking the hammer with the ring trigger but once started, function is fine. Worn dark bore with good rifling. 4-40471 (1,500-2,500)
