FINE AESTHETIC MOVEMENT INLAID TABLE ATTRIBUTED TO HERTER BROTHERS. Third quarter 19th century, New York City. The octagonal side table with molded edges veneered in burl walnut within rosewood and burled elm crossbanded borders, alternating with contrasting stringing. Centering a floral rosette above the molded frieze inlaid with delicate floral vinery as illustrated on page 219, cat. no. 34 in Herter Brothers’ “Furniture and Interiors for a Gilded Age”, published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc. Joined to the hexagonal pedestal with profuse floral inlay, conforming to that found on the frieze with molded base on a platform with molded edge and deeply incurved sides. Raised on later suppressed ball foliate carved feet. SIZE: 30″ h x 29-1/2″ overall dia. CONDITION: With professionally re-polished surfaces overall, and with restoration to veneers. Feet as previously noted, otherwise very good with nice color and patina. 9-27756 (5,000-7,000)
