IMPORTANT SHERATON INLAID MAHOGANY SECRETARY ATTRIBUTED JOSHUA DAMON. First third 19th century, Wiscasset, Maine, Joshua Damon (1784-1871). In two parts, the crest comprised of three plinths alternating with elliptic panels, each surmounted by turned brass urn form finials above the frieze decorated with string inlays forming a central star above a pair of astragal-glazed doors opening to an adjustable shelf. All above a pair of blind covered doors opening to an interior fitted with valanced pigeon holes. The lower case with hinged box baise lined writing surface hinged and opening above two storage wells, three aligned drawers at the rear. The case with three graduated long drawers with cockbeaded edges raised on square short tapering legs. The whole with contrasting string inlays of varying patterns and designs. Note: The secretary is accompanied by a full attribution report produced by Donald V. Rainville of Camden, Maine for the current owners in 2005. SIZE: 85-1/2″ h x 40-3/4″ w 21″d. PROVENANCE: Collection and shop contents of Linda and the late Vito Peri (owners of the Blue Dolphin Antique Shop, Northport, Maine). CONDITION: Secretary retains original old surfaces, professionally cleaned and polished. Brasses are later replacements. Very good overall with minor cosmetic restoration. 9-90097 (3,000-5,000)
