SCARCE CIVIL WAR ERA SOUTH CAROLINA MILITIA BELT & BUCKLE. Red Moroccan leather belt folded with sewn seam about 40″ long x 1-5/8″ wide, very nicely roll decorated on outside in geometric patterns. The ends of belt are sewn around a 2-pc tongue & wreath brass buckle, the center of which bears the repoussed emblem of the palmetto tree of the State of South Carolina with the Latin inscription around bottom. PROVENANCE: David Crocker Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very dry & brittle with two breaks, one of which is nearly completely through. Red color is faded to a deep rose color with moderate soil. The wreath end of the belt stitching is completely loose as are the stitches that secure the belt keeper. Tongue end of belt has replaced stitching. Buckle is slightly bent on wreath end of belt loop. 4-36891 JR130 (1,000-3,000)
