NEW ENGLAND DIMINUTIVE GRAIN-PAINTED AND STENCIL-DECORATED DOME TOP TRUNK. Circa 1830. Maine. The rosewood faux-grained trunk with stenciled borders of leafy garlands, the center of the lid decorated with a fruit filled urn flanked by the letters “B” the front similarly decorated. The interior lid and bottom lined with a newspaper dated 1833. The trunk of dovetailed construction containing original hasp and lock, the ends mounted with heart shaped carrying handles, the whole on a molded plinth. SIZE: 12-1/2″h. x 29″ l. x 14-1/2″d. CONDITION: Very fine original condition, the stencil decorations now faded. 9-99903 (800-1,200)
