SIDNEY L SMITH (Engraver, 19th/20th Century) PANORAMIC VIEW OF BOSTON HARBOR. Rare engraved scene after an original watercolor by Christian Rimick showing Boston Harbor Islands with Men of War landing the 14th Regiment on the First of October, 1768. Each ship is identified with a number and a left top cartouche identifies the ship and island. The print is hand colored and has a decorative flag and scroll cartouche in upper right with an inscription to John Hancock. Below print is inscribed “Engraved by Sidney L. Smith for twenty-two members of the Club of Odd Volumes, From the original watercolor by Christian Remick. One hundred copies printed January 1904.”. The print is pencil signed bottom right by the engraver “Sidney L. Smith”. Housed in a black molded wood frame. SIZE: Sight: 14-1/4″ x 58-1/2″. CONDITION: No tears, water stains to margins and overall toning. Not examined out of frame. 9-94009 (500-1,500)
