GOTHIC REVIVAL CARVED MAHOGANY FIRE SCREEN. Second half 19th century, probably New York. The large rectangular screen with fine petit point panel depicting a floral filled classical urn in a lush garden landscape wrought in muted earth tones. Within a molded frame beneath a carved crest depicting a pair of winged griffins, joined to stiles carved with classical winged figures and with acanthus leaf carving, raised on down turned acanthus carved supports, headed by female busts with scrolling headdresses terminating in hairy paw feet. SIZE: 52″ h x 35″ overall w x 19″ overall d. CONDITION: Screen retains all original surfaces, with fine medium-brown color and good patina.
