$4,887.50
Revised: 9/30/2010

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: We have just received some paperwork from the estate of the consignor of this lot consisting of copies of military records that imply that at one time this sword was owned by Capt. Edmund Johnson, Co. G, 31th Reg’t, NY Inf Vols.

E.J. JOHNSTON, MACON, GA MARKED CONFEDERATE SHORT SWORD. This rarely found, maker marked short sword appears in “as found” condition with good patina to concentric ring, gripped short sword typical of this Macon, GA maker. Also typical of the maker is the very thick, two fullered blade with the triangular shaped stopped fuller at top, which is unique to this maker. SIZE: 18-1/2″ blade, 24″ overall. CONDITION: The 18-1/2″ blade is brown with rust and pitting, lacking its protective washer, quillons each have a slight bend up. A 3/4″ casting flaw is seen in pommel on reverse side. Maker mark is very discernible, however there is a casting flaw partially obliterating the “E” in “E.J. Johnson”, as can be seen in photos. 4-40703 JS23 (6,000-8,000)
