RARE C.W. GROVER LOG CALIPER WITH WHEEL. Mid-19th century. Mounted at one end with a ten-spoke wheel tipped with spikes, capped with a circular nameplate clearly marked “C.W. GROVER, CARATUNK, ME. Patented”. Most Grover wheels are not marked. The caliper jaws fitted to brass supports cast with the letter “G”, the top rail marked “PEELED/TIMBER” with ten lines of calibration sized into the rail. Retains original yellow painted surfaces and black incised calibrations. SIZE: 48″ overall l. x 28″ overall w. PROVENANCE: From a northern Maine home. CONDITION: This tool is in very fine overall structural condition and totally original. All painted surfaces worn from normal use, with excellent patina. The incised calibration marks are all clear.
