FINE ROCOCO REVIVAL CARVED WALNUT BREAKFRONT BOOKCASE. Third quarter 19th century, New York. The upper bookcase in three parts. The molded cornices surmounted by a molded swan’s neck pediment centering a well carved bust of William Shakespeare, set amidst oak leaf and acorn carvings, further flanked by molded scrolled foliate secondary crests. The central bookcase with a pair of glass panel doors with scrolled molded frames, flanked by single panel door cases, headed by grape clusters. Stepped back and fitted to the lower breakfront case with molded mid shelf above a central long drawer with hinged front opening to a baize-lined writing surface. Above a pair of molded covered doors, each applied with carved grape clusters. The central section flanked by conforming cabinets, each with short drawer above a single door. The whole on a molded plinth. SIZE: 9′ 5-1/2″ overall h x 6′ 7-1/2″ overall w x 17-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Very good, with professionally re-polished surfaces. 9-27822 (3,000-5,000)
