FINE AMERICAN CARVED SERPENT FORM PARADE STAFF. Late 19th early 20th century. This fine painted and gilt wood example of folk art depicting a serpent intertwined around a tapered shaft with ball finial hand grip. The snake with open mouth mounted with nails simulating a forked tongue carved in the act of striking. The staff painted a dark blue gray. SIZE: 62-1/2″ l. CONDITION: All original surfaces in very good structural condition with normal and expected wear to gilded and painted surfaces. 9-99563 (1,500-2,500)
