CONTINENTAL PAINTED BLANKET CHEST. First half 19th century. Probably Dutch or German. Rectangular lid with applied molding mounted with strap hinges. Conforming dovetail case raised on tapered pointed square legs, decorated overall with panels each depicting songbird on floral branch, all on blue ground. SIZE: 25-1/2″ h x 40″ l x 24″ d. PROVENANCE: From a fine New Jersey home. CONDITION: Chest with old painted surfaces, somewhat faded and worn with original backboard and feet. Hardware, lock, and key are original. Slight warping to proper right front panel at corner. 9-24620 (400-600)
