JOHN HALEY BELLAMY (1836-1914), CARVED EAGLE PLAQUE. Circa 1900. This carved pine example in the form of those illustrated on pp. 66-69 of John Haley Bellamy Carver of Eagles by Yvonne Brault Smith. The eagle in a dark stain, the plaque polychrome painted. Carved on the reverse is the letter “Z”. LITERATURE: For a nearly identical example, a pair of eagles is illustrated in An American Sampler, Folk Art from the Shelburne Museum, p. 73, fig. 18. SIZE: 6-1/2″ h. x 36-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Structurally very good, with some surface wear on central front of neck. 9-99398 (2,000-5,000)
