LARGE EXCEPTIONAL DIORAMA OF THE SIDEWHEEL STEAMSHIP “CHICAGO”. Circa 1860. American. This over sized finely detailed folk art example depicted under full steam with American flag, ensign, owner’s pennant, and ship’s pennant. The white hull with green and red striping marked “U.S. MAIL” the housing for the paddle wheel marked with the ship’s name “CHICAGO” the foreground with small models of dory and coastal schooner. The diorama is mounted within a deep walnut and gilt-wood molded Victorian frame. SIZE: h. 24″ x l. 41″ x d. 11″. CONDITION: The diorama in very good condition overall structurally. Intact colors remain vibrant. The painted sky in the background with slight and minimal bleeding around the knots. 9-20263 (2,000-4,000)
