PAIR OF CARVED COCONUT POWDER FLASKS. Late 19th century. Possibly Wheelock or Mexico. Each example with surfaces meticulously hand carved over every inch, finely detailed imagery including church and/or castle, blossoming flowers, clusters of grapes, foliate motifs, recumbent dog, a bird in flight, and more. Each with metal spout on one end. Smaller flask with opposing metal rings for threading with strap. The overall level of quality and workmanship is superlative. Very similar in design to examples seen at http://www.colonialarts.com. SIZE: Each approx. 5″ l. (not including spout). CONDITION: Both very good condition overall, unbroken and intact. Carvings crisp. Moderate rust on metal attachments on smaller flask. Good chocolate brown patina. 9-94518 (1,000-1,500)
