TIFFANY NON-REGULATION PRESENTATION GRADE SWORD. This sword is in beautiful condition with a 31″ double-edged blade made and marked by Collins of Hartford, CT in 1862. Sword is also agent marked “TIFFANY & CO/NEW YORK” above the Collins mark. Blade is etched in 16″ panels with dragons, panoplies of arms, and a script” “US”. The cruciform guard that terminates into two pine cone-shaped quillons has a 2″ square pierced central device that a fluted sheet silver grip sits. The silver grip is topped with a 1-3/4″ decorated pommel topped with a large pine cone capstan. There is a double chain running from one quillon to pommel via two soldered brass rings. A double chain guard just over 5″ long is found between these two rings. The gilted brass scabbard has three engraved mounts with military and foliate designs. The reverse of the top mount is engraved “STONE RIVER”. Above the top mount is the Tiffany maker ribbon as seen in photos. CONDITION: The blade is gray/white with scattered areas of staining and several small nicks in cutting edge. this blade once had a gold background under etched devices only tiny traces of the gold remain today. Markings on blade are discernible though part of Collins mark is hard to read, as can be seen in photos. Silver grip has numerous small nicks and dings and a couple very small dents. Brass sword mounts, chain, scabbard and mounts retain most of their original gilt with areas of small scratches, dings and dents. Just below the middle mount on scabbard, there is a hairline crack which extends fully three-quarters of scabbard’s diameter. The scabbard body otherwise only exhibits a few small dents. 4-40834 JS43 (8,000-12,000)
